PHOENIX -- A father and his young son were seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle in Phoenix Wednesday night.

Police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Howard said they were crossing the street in the area of 32nd Street and Thomas Road on a motorized scooter when a vehicle struck the front of the scooter.

The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately, according to Howard.

He said the child, who is approximately 6 years old, was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition. The father was transported with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are investigating.
