NOGALES, Ariz. -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Nogales reportedly seized nearly 18 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested the alleged smuggler Tuesday.

Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing searched a Ford sedan driven by 39-year-old Crecencio Garzon-Escalera, of Mexico, after a K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs, according to CBP.

CBP seized the vehicle and drugs.

Garzon-Escalera was referred to U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
