Altercation leads to shots fired in south Tempe; 3 suspects sought

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Tempe police are investigating a shooting that happened Wednesday afternoon near Baseline Road and Hardy Drive.

Police said there was an altercation involving three armed suspects and two victims at an apartment complex. They all apparently were acquainted.

During the scuffle, the suspects began beating up one of the victims.

The second victim attempted to flee. Lt. Mike Pooley said the suspects chased him and fired at least two shots.

Pooley said two suspects had handguns and the other possibly had an assault rifle. The victims were not armed.

No one was shot during the incident. The victims received minor injuries. One was treated at a local hospital and released. The other did not require hospitalization.

The suspects are described as three black males. Police said no detailed descriptions were provided by the victims. They fled in a silver passenger car possibly a Chevy Impala, according to police.

Police are still trying to piece together exactly what occurred.
