National Make a Difference DayPosted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -- Oct. 22 is National Make a Difference Day and Renewal by Andersen is making a difference by donating windows to homes at the House of Refuge.
Window for Change renovated two homes with new windows and doors at the House of Refuge East (HRE) in East Mesa Wednesday.
"It gives us a chance to use our discipline, our skill sets, our expertise," Dow Rigler of Renewal by Andersen said. "It's so great to put in a product that's going to reduce the operating cost on those homes by anywhere from 40 to 50 percent and all that money can now go back in to programming."
Each year this program funded by Renewal by Andersen helps give back.
Five dollars from every window they sell goes to the Window for Change fund.
"Every house is getting more and more efficient," Nancy Marion, executive director of House of Refuge, said.
The windows for Change Program has the goal of renovating all 80 homes at HRE.
The homes were built in 1973.
House of Refuge is a transitional housing program for homeless families and victims of domestic violence.
"House of Refuge is a transitional housing program for homeless families. We have 82 homes that we bring families in that have been defined as homeless and our main job is to move them in to permanent housing and out of those homeless cycles," Marion said.
HRE is also accepting donations of clothes, food, and furniture at its donation center.
"When residents come in from a homeless situation one of the things that we want to do is to give them a dignified home. A home that you and I would want to live in," Marion said.
The total cash, in-kind labor and product donations this year came to $41,882.
