Woman found dead in Colorado River had gunshot wound

YUMA, Ariz. – A woman whose body was found in the Colorado River last week had been shot, according to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office.

An autopsy revealed that the victim had a single gunshot wound to the chest, which resulted in her death.

The sheriff's office responded to a report of a deceased person in the river about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. U.S. Border Patrol agents helped recover the body.

On Sunday, authorities searched the area where the victim was found for any signs of a crime scene or evidence.

The identity of the victim is still unknown. She is described as a white female between the ages of 18 and 30. Sheriff's officials said she was wearing blue jeans and an orange tank top.
