PHOENIX -- Kids in the Valley were being active on Sunday.

“We're setting up youth activities, youth sports activities in parks,” said Carl Ferro, who founded Sunfare.

Ferro believes kids need a place to play, and along with sporting activities, his foundation raises funds to get the lights back on at parks and recreational areas across the Valley.

On Sunday, Sunfare held a 5k and 10k walk and run.

“Today is a fantastic turnout for the first annual run. We've got about a hundred people right now and hopefully we'll get about 50 more walk-throughs as we get going,” Ferro said.

The fundraiser is also helping to provide personalized healthy meals and delicious, family-style dinners in Valley neighborhoods.

“I think it's really great," said runner Andrea Heser, who has been a part of a few Valley racing groups. "I think they're a really great group of people, very motivating and very positive."
