PEORIA, Ariz. -- Two people were killed and 13 people were hurt in a rollover crash in the northwest part of the Valley.

It happened around 1 a.m. Saturday on Lake Pleasant Parkway between State Route 74, the Carefree Highway, and Loop 303.

Officers with the Peoria Police Dept. said at least three vehicles were involved.

They say the driver of one vehicle was trying to pass another vehicle when the passing vehicle crashed into a third vehicle.

Eight people were rushed to hospitals with life-threatening injuries. On Sunday, four people remained in critical condition and four others were listed as stable, according to police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto.

Police said the victims are in their late teens or early twenties.

Many of them were not wearing seat belts.

The two people killed have been identified as 21-year-old Raul Contreras and 19-year-old Eric Cuellar Mendoza, both Phoenix residents.

The crash is still under investigation.
