PHOENIX -- A Phoenix police officer fired his gun twice but did not shoot an assault suspect during a confrontation on Friday morning.

It happened at a mobile home community near 39th Ave. and Roosevelt St.

Police were called to the scene for a disturbance at one of the residences.

When police arrived, a man put a knife to the throat of another individual.

Police said the man was ordered to put the knife down and that is when an officer fired his gun. The man then rushed the officer which is when the officer fired a second shot.

The man got away from police when he ran away from the scene.

Police caught up to him on the other side of Interstate 10 at 39th Ave. and Culver St. and took him into custody.

He was taken to the hospital.

The officer is said to be okay and so is the suspect.
