PHOENIX -- Two women were shot on Friday morning while walking down the street, according to police.

One of the women died. The other is in the hospital being treated for multiple gunshot wounds. She is in stable condition.

It happened near 27th and Campbell avenues.

Police said a 31-year-old black woman and a 23-year-old Hispanic woman were walking around 4:15 a.m. when a black man approached the women and shot them both.

The Hispanic woman died at the scene.

Police have a person in custody who they believe is the shooter based on what witnesses said. Franklin Clifton, 28, was found around the corner from the shooting.

"He just walked off like he was, I don't know, I guess he thought he was Superman and police ain't his kryptonite," a witness said.

Police are not searching for anyone else in this investigation. They said the suspect is not talking about the shooting, but they believe he is known to the victims.

Investigators will try to get information from the woman in the hospital.

Residents said this is a drug-related incident.
