Students hit high note with Barbershop Extravaganza

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- You might not expect to hear barbershop music from high schoolers, but that's exactly what you'll hear at Chandler High School.

A student group that will be performing on the concert "Barbershop Extravaganza" held next Tuesday, October 21. The students are hosting this concert to help raise money for their trip to New Orleans where they will be participating in a barbershop convention.

The group of students taking part in the concert is very diverse. "We have guys from all parts of the campus," says Lori Lyford, Chandler Choir Director. "We have athletes, we have dancers, actors, mathematicians. We have experts in every field. They just love to sing."

Guest groups who will volunteering their time and talents to perform on the concert are The Spirit of Phoenix men's barbershop chorus, and the Scottsdale Chorus of Sweet Adelines. Also four Chandler Choirs will be singing in the show, lending their understanding of the barbershop art form.

The benefit concert "Barbershop Extravaganza" will be held Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 in the Chandler Center for the Arts, located at 250 N. Arizona Ave, Chandler.

Tickets are on sale at the Chandler High School bookstore during the day, or through any CHS choir student. $15 preferred seating, $10 adult general admission, and $5 student general admission.  Any remaining tickets will be on sale in the lobby at 6:00 Tuesday evening. The auditorium opens at 6:15 and show starts at 7:00. 

"We want everybody to come," Lyford says. "We want to pack the place." Organizers hope to sell out the 1,500 seat auditorium.
