PHOENIX -- A new resident of the Phoenix Zoo made his debut Monday morning!

The baby male orangutan greeted the crowd with his mom, Bess, at his side. They posed together in the "day room," an enclosed area of the exhibit.

Zoo personnel have been waiting for this day since the baby's arrival Sept. 2.

The month-and-a-half-old Bornean orangutan still does not have a name. He clings to mom constantly, since Bornean orangutan newborns spend the first four to five months 'on' their mothers.

We're told Bess is an extremely attentive mother and is doing a fabulous job of taking care of her little one.

This baby is the second baby born to Bess and dad Michael, joining eight-year-old sister Kasih.
