New show 'Jane the Virgin' brings humor, drama to the CWPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A brand new show on the CW is generating a lot of buzz, and on Monday's Good Morning Arizona, Kaley O'Kelley got to chat with its star.
In "Jane the Virgin," Gina Rodriguez stars as Jane Villanueva, whose life plans are suddenly turned upside down when she is accidentally artificially inseminated. The show is based on a Venezuelan soap-opera.
Named the "Next Big Thing" and one of the "Top 35 Latinos Under 35" by The Hollywood Reporter, Gina Rodriguez's profile has been rising steadily.
On Monday, she talked to us about the new show and her cast mates. "On Jane the Virgin, my grandmother's awesome," Gina tells us. "She has me make a promise to her that I'm going to save myself for marriage. And then I go for a routine pap smear, and get accidentally artificially inseminated."
Jane the Virgin offers something for many audiences. "You get to see a new culture," she says. "There are multiple languages in this show. It's a lot of fun. There's reality, there's grounded drama, and there's somebody for everybody to connect to."
The show also comes with some life lessons. "It shows you that you just really can't plan life as much as you wish you could," Gina says.
Jane the Virgin premieres Monday evening on the CW.
