Westbound I-8 reopens after crash near Gila Bend

GILA BEND, Ariz. (AP) -- A fatal crash forced an hours-long closure of the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 just west of Gila Bend.

Arizona Department of Public Safety official says the crash Monday morning involved a semi-tractor and a motorcycle.

One person was killed but the victim's name wasn't immediately released.

Traffic was being stopped at Citrus Valley Road near mile marker 111 around 11 a.m. with traffic returning to I-8 at Paloma Road.

The westbound lanes were finally reopened around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Westbound Interstate 8 closed west of Gila Bend

PHOENIX -- Westbound Interstate 8 is closed west of Gila Bend following a fatal crash, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Traffic is being stopped at Citrus Valley Road near mile 111. An extended closure is expected but there is no indication when the freeway will reopen.
