PHOENIX -- Seven people are recovering after a driver drifted across the street into oncoming traffic.

It happened at about 1 p.m. Sunday on 51st Avenue south of Thomas Road.

Firefighters had to extricate one person from an SUV and another from a sedan.

Four of the seven people involved, two of them children, reportedly were in serious condition when they were transported to local hospitals.

Police on the scene administered a field sobriety test to the female driver of the vehicle that crossed the center line.

Officers took that woman into custody, but they have not released any information about her.
