PHOENIX -- Moisture from Tropical Storm Simon is headed toward Arizona and could bring the Valley some rain as early as Tuesday night. Already, we can see some of the high clouds associated around the system mainly draped across southern Arizona. However, there’s no precipitation associated with this initial batch of clouds.

High temperatures have come down from the weekend. The clouds have helped with that. And we’ll continue to see rather cool temperatures for this time of year for the rest of the week, with highs in the Valley generally in the 80s and overnight lows in the 60s.

Rainfall amounts are still tough to forecast with this tropical system. However, the best estimate is that many metro Phoenix locations will see up to one inch of rain from Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon. Most of that rain will probably come when the initial “core” of Simon begins to make its way into Arizona.

In the high country, some areas along the Mogollon Rim could see up to two inches of rain this week. After the tropical system passes by, we expect sunny mild weather for next weekend.
