National Cruise Vacation Week

Posted: Updated:

If you’re considering taking a cruise, AAA experts say this is the week to book your trip.

This week is National Cruise Vacation week, which means for the next seven days travelers can score big savings and lots of extras when they book a future voyage.

"Savings and special offers during National Cruise Week can include shipboard credits up to $500, balcony upgrades, two-for-one fares, free tours and free hotel nights, just to name a few,” said Amy Moreno, senior travel manager for AAA Arizona. "As travel experts, we know these incentives are some of the best deals travelers will see all year, savings potential cruisers can’t afford to miss."

Twenty-six different cruise lines representing more than 200 of the world’s most popular ships including river and specialty cruises will participate in the weeklong event.

As a go-to source for travel info and to help travelers make the most of their cruise, AAA travel experts recommend the following three tips:

  • Choose the right cruise. Consider destination and climate, of course, but also think about the cruise line and ship. Cruise line options range from more family oriented experiences to high-end.  Take a look at different ships, too. Many offer several activities for adults and children alike, and some provide a more luxury experience.  Consult your travel agent to find the best fit.
  • Budget accordingly. Understand what is and what is not included in the cruise price. For example, shore excursions and alcoholic beverages are typically not included, while most meals and gratuity are. Talk to your agent to help determine a budget while onboard.
  • Be prepared. Consult your travel agent or cruise line to find out what type of ID and documentation you will need to provide. In addition, consider the weather and cruise itinerary to determine what to pack. For example, most cruise lines will have one or two optional formal dinners onboard.

"Cruising is a fantastic travel option that provides something to do for everyone in the family," said Moreno. "Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser or you’ve yet to make your maiden voyage, this week is the week to book a trip."
