FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say a man taken to jail in Flagstaff for aggravated assault has died.

Flagstaff police say 49-year-old Michael Daryle Rose was pronounced dead around 1 a.m. Friday.

They say Rose contacted police and fire dispatch about 11 p.m. Thursday and requested to be transported to the hospital because he wasn't feeling well.

Authorities say Rose wouldn't allow them to care for him nor would he get into the ambulance.

They say he became agitated and punched a police officer in the face.

Police used a stun gun on Rose's legs and he was taken to the Coconino Detention Facility.

After being put in a holding cell, authorities say Rose stopped breathing for some reason and couldn't be resuscitated.

An outside agency is being asked to investigate the incident.
