PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Police say a suspicious device found at a government office in Prescott Thursday morning did not contain explosive materials.

A security guard found the device around 7:30 a.m. on a door handle of the Arizona Department of Child Safety office near Iron Springs and Willow Creek roads.

Prescott police and fire personnel evacuated the building and secured the area.

Explosive technicians from the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the FBI evaluated the device and determined it was inert.

Authorities searched the rest of the building and the surrounding area for other devices.

The area reopened for normal traffic around 2:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
