PHOENIX -- The City of Phoenix dedicated a new crosswalk known as "The Hawk" outside of Sunnyslope High at Central and Townley Tuesday.

HAWK, High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk, signals are being put in place all over the Valley to make crossing busy streets easier and safer.

"Once it's flashing red that means look, make sure everyone's out of the crosswalk, and if they are, you can proceed forward," Phoenix City Councilman Bill Gates said.

Twenty HAWK crossings have been installed in high traffic areas with a lot of pedestrians throughout the city.
