Flagstaff man gets prison term in strangulation death of mother

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) -- An 18-year-old Flagstaff man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in the strangulation death of his mother.
 
The Arizona Daily Sun reports that Zachariah Pine was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Mark Moran of Coconino County Superior Court.

Pine previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of 52-year-old Becky Pickering.
 
Police said Pine called 911 on Feb. 20 to report that his mother wasn't breathing.
 
She was found unconscious and lying on the kitchen floor with a pool of blood around her heard. She died the next day at a hospital.
 
The Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office said she died from strangulation.
