In honor of the first day of Phoenix Fashion Week, designer Misha Mendicino and Hanna Tucker previewed some of the pieces that will be on the runway over the next few days.

Mendicino is a local emerging designer who specializes in resort wear for the everyday woman.

Her line has a strong focus on humanitarian efforts with elephants. Some of her pieces even feature a signature elephant pattern that symbolizes her passion for helping the animal.

Her collection will be on display at Phoenix Fashion Week Thursday.

On the bold end of the spectrum, Dubai-based designer Rocky Gathercole designs fancy, visual gowns -- one of which will be shown at the Fashionably Pink event Wednesday night.

His pieces have been worn by Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and other celebrities for red carpet events, music videos and more.

This year's collection by Gathercole will close Phoenix Fashion Week at Saturday's finale.

Phoenix Fashion Week kicks off Wednesday with the Fashionably Pink event that raises awareness for breast cancer locally.
