Police ID victim in fatal motorcycle crash in W. Phoenix

PHOENIX – Police have identified the motorcycle rider who died in a motorcycle crash that closed a portion of Grand Avenue in west Phoenix Tuesday afternoon.
Grand Avenue was closed southbound from 43rd Avenue to 35th Avenue for the investigation.
According to Officer James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department, William Thomas Griffith, 51, was traveling southeast on Grand Avenue when he lost control of his Victory and hit the west curb. Griffith was thrown off the motorcycle when it hit a wood guardrail post.
Griffith was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Holmes said he was wearing a helmet when he crashed. It is not known if speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
The area was closed through the evening rush hour.
