PEORIA Ariz. – Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a garage fire at a home near Deer Valley Road and 83rd Avenue in Peoria Monday morning.

Just after 5 a.m., a neighbor called to report the garage fire, according to Peoria Fire Department spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto. The neighbor alerted the residents, who were asleep inside the home.

A couple and their two teenage daughters were able to escape the home before fire crews arrived.

Officials said the fire started in the garage and destroyed a car that was inside. Two other vehicles that were in the driveway were damaged.

Firefighters said there was smoke and water damage to the house.

No one was injured.

A fire captain said the fire was contained to the garage mainly because the residents kept the garage door shut. If they had opened the garage door, it possibly would have allowed the fire to creep into the rest of the house.
