Former employee arrested after attempted robbery at Goodyear restaurant

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Goodyear police detectives have arrested two men suspected of attempting to rob a restaurant at gunpoint early Wednesday morning.

Police said the employee victim at the Tropical Smoothie Cafe near McDowell and Dysart roads recognized one of the suspects as a former employee and called 911.

The suspects fled the scene in a silver Honda Accord. Within an hour, police arrested the former employee, Joseph Silveira, 21.

Alberto Buelna-Inzunza, 19, was arrested later the same day.

During a search of Buelna-Inzunza's residence, detectives recovered the shotgun used in the attempted robbery, according to police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis.

Detectives later discovered that the suspects had purchased bandannas and duct tape prior to the attempted robbery.

The suspects were booked into Maricopa County jail for armed robbery and aggravated robbery. Inzunza is being held on $75,000 bond and Silveira is being held on $50,000 bond.
