GILBERT, Ariz. -- Phoenix Children's Hospital is holding a grand opening Saturday for its new unit at Dignity Health Mercy Gilbert Medical Center.

The new unit will feature 22 private patient rooms and its own pharmacy and will be staffed 100 percent by Phoenix Children's Hospital.

The new pharmacy will be staffed by one of the Phoenix Children's hospital pharmacists 18 hours a day.

"We have Phoenix Children's Hospital providers including 24/7 hospital coverage by physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and ancillary staff so it really is a pediatric hospital right outside your door," said Dr. Kate McDonnell, medical director of the new Phoenix Children's unit.

The grand opening will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday for those interested in checking out the new facility.

Families will be able to meet the Phoenix Children's team that will staff the unit and participate in fun activities. There will also be a special appearance from Radio Disney and Doc McStuffins Stuffed Toy Clinic.

A short program will begin at 9:30 a.m.
