Phoenix flights canceled, delayed by fire at Chicago centerPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Sky Harbor International Airport officials say approximately 20 flights between Phoenix and Chicago have been canceled because of a fire at an air traffic control facility in a Chicago suburb.
The fire early Friday morning shut down Chicago's two airports -- Midway and O'Hare.
Sky Harbor spokeswoman Julie Rodriguez said the affected Phoenix flights were about evenly divided between arrivals and departures.
Rodriguez said three flights between Phoenix and Milwaukee also were delayed or canceled.
The affected flights were from Southwest, United and American/US Airways.
Travelers with scheduled flights to Chicago or a connection through Chicago on Friday are being advised to check the status of their flights before going to the airport.
Rodriguez says there aren't any long lines at Sky Harbor because of the canceled departures because the airlines have been notifying passengers.
