PHOENIX -- The first cold front of the fall season combined with residual monsoon moisture is going to make for an interesting weather weekend around Arizona, especially on Saturday.

As the front moves in, we’re expecting showers and thunderstorms to develop Saturday. There’s a chance some of those storms, especially in northern Arizona, could become severe.

The latest rainfall forecasts indicate a decent chance for measureable rain around much of the Valley this weekend.

Right now, more than 1 inch of rain is possible in the northern, northeastern and eastern portions of the metro Phoenix area. Areas of the west and south Valley may receive significantly less rain.

We’re also going to see a significant drop in temperatures.

This week, metro Phoenix has been seeing highs in the range of 100-104. By Sunday, high temperatures will be in the 80s. And it looks like we’re going to stay with rather cool temperatures through next week. That means some locations around the Valley are looking at lows in the 60s.

While the chance for rain around Phoenix will peak Saturday afternoon at about 60 percent, those chances will go downhill quickly. While we could see a few lingering showers Sunday morning, we expect Sunday to be mostly sunny.
