High school soccer players hit by heat exhaustion

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say four high school soccer players from the Grand Canyon area were treated at a Scottsdale-area area hospital after complaining of heat exhaustion.

The Scottsdale Fire Department says six players complained of the problem Wednesday evening during a visit to Thunderbird Christian Academy for a soccer game.

Medics evaluated them and four were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The department says the players weren't acclimated to the area's dry and hot climate. Plus, it says crews were told air conditioning wasn't working in the players' van, there was limited shade, and the general activity of the game had an impact.
