9-Year-old girl says woman followed her home from bus stopPosted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Coconino County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a woman who followed a 9-year-old girl home from a school bus stop.
The child told the sheriff's office that she got off a school bus at Townsend-Winona and Blue Field roads on Friday, Sept. 12, and a woman in an SUV offered to give her a ride home.
The girl said no and continued to walk home but noticed the SUV following her. She dropped her water bottle and ran through several residential yards until she reached her home in the Doney Park area.
The woman then parked her SUV in front of the house and knocked on the front door, asking if anyone was home.
The girl hid inside a room, and the sheriff's office was called to the home around 1:22 p.m.
When a deputy arrived, the woman had left. The deputy was met by the girl and her father.
The woman is described as a heavy-set, Native American woman. She was driving a maroon or red SUV, possibly an older model Chevrolet Tahoe.
