Motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV in TempePosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- A motorcyclist is dead after colliding with an SUV in north Tempe.
Tempe police say the accident occurred Tuesday afternoon at about 12:30.
They say it appears the SUV turned in front of the motorcycle.
Police identified the victim as Troy Dale Salisberry, 51, of Chandler, and the driver of the SUV as Paul Zarchin, 60.
"What we've discovered so far is that there is a Ford Explorer that was traveling eastbound on Curry trying to make a left turn onto northbound College," said Sgt. Steve Carbajal. "It appears that movement was done in front of a motorcycle that was traveling westbound here. Unfortunately the motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased."
Carbajal said it doesn't appear that impairment was a factor in the collision.
Zarchin was cited for failing to yield while turning left at an intersection, as well as a misdemeanor traffic violation.
"A good opportunity to remind people again make sure you're looking for motorcycles, make sure you're looking for bicyclists, make sure you're looking for pedestrians because you never know," Carbajal said.
The intersection of Curry Road and College Avenue was closed in all directions while officers were on scene investigating the fatal crash.
