Family expert says you can have a happy family by FridayPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Having a happy family is simpler than you might think, but it does take some effort.
It's a topic psychologist and best-selling author Dr. Kevin Leman tackles in his new book, "How to Have a Happy Family by Friday."
It boils down to what you say and how you say it.
"The words you choose to use with those you love have everything to do with the way your loved ones will respond," he wrote. "You can change your family simply by changing the words you use."
He sat down with 3TV's Kaley O'Kelley Tuesday morning to share his insight and advice.
"Fun is a missing ingredient today in families," he told 3TV's Kaley O'Kelley.
And he does not just mean fun for the entire family. Leman says husbands and wives need make each other a priority, separate from the kids.
Leman says his book will teach you how to do five main things.
- Communicate honestly and kindly
- Prioritize the right things
- Maintain great attitudes and behaviors
- Determine the role each person plays in the family structure
- Make family time count
"How to Have a Happy Family by Friday" is available in books stores and online now.
