Jobs for the holidays: Toys R Us is hiring nowPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- As the winter holidays draw closer, retailers throughout the country are ramping up for the shopping season.
Toys R Us will more than double its workforce by hiring 45,000 seasonal employees at its stores and distribution centers nationwide.
The hiring blitz comes at a good time for Arizona. A report released Monday showed that the state's jobless rate is up for the third straight month.
The Toys R Us seasonal employees will work between 16 and 20 hours per week.
Some 20 percent of them will stay on with the company after the holiday shopping season winds down.
Interviewing for holiday positions at Toys R Us stores begins at the end of September and new hires start working in early October. Staffing continues to build throughout the holiday season right up to Christmas.
Interested job seekers can visit the company's dedicated Holiday Hiring website -- www.toysrusinc.com/careers/holiday -- to apply and learn more about working at Toys R Us during the holiday season. The site is accessible via computers, tablets and smartphones.
Wal-Mart, Target and J.C. Penny are hiring thousands of people for the holidays, as well.
Regardless of where you apply, experts suggest you do it in person so that you can make a face-to-face connection. They also say you should familiarize with the store in which you hope to work and be flexible, both in your availability and with what you're willing to do.
