SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. -- The Pinal County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help finding the driver in a hit-and-run.

An 18-year-old was struck Sunday night while riding his skateboard in the curb lane of Gantzel Road just south of Chandler Heights Road in San Tan Valley, according to the sheriff's office.

PCSO spokesman Tim Gaffney said the victim flew through the air and was located in the dirt 15 feet away from the roadway.

The driver failed to stop and render aid.

The victim was flown to a Phoenix-area hospital where he underwent surgery. He is listed in extremely critical condition with multiple injuries, including severe head trauma.

Gaffney said a witness at the scene reported he was walking on the sidewalk northbound on Gantzel Road when a white SUV drove so close to the sidewalk that the vehicle brushed his left arm. The vehicle continued northbound on the roadway until it hit the victim.

The suspect vehicle probably has damage to the right front end and was last seen heading northbound on Gantzel Road, according to sheriff's officials.

The driver is being sought for questioning.

Anyone with information about the driver's identity or whereabouts is asked to contact the Pinal County Sheriff's Office at 520-866-5111.
