Welcome to the Varsity Zone...

We are one month into the season and tonight we already had the state championship, at least that’s what people said.

The outcome will have a direct effect on the nationals rankings, both Chandler and Mountain Pointe are ranked in the Top 25 on maxpreps.

ASU coach Todd Graham on hand

Chandler’s Bryce Perkins to Jun Jan for the 18 yard connection and it is 20-14 Mountain Pointe.

The Pride’s Brandyn Leonard with a 38 yard TD run to them up 27-14

Then Chase Lucas answers with a 71 yard TD run to cut the lead back to 6.

But then it’s the Josh Lucas, no relation, show …. He just kicks it into a high gear and he’s gone from 44 yards.

And he’s not done, he sprints passed everyone again and on a 54 yard TD run

Mountain Pointe would hold on to win a close one 45-42

Basha and Pinnacle

Basha undefeated under new coach Gerald Todd and Pinnacle would love to forget last week’s two poing loss to Hamilton.

Basha’s Cade Thompson lining up a 41 yard field goal and he drills it.

Then it’s Brian Lewerke to Cules Rose for a 54 yard connection.

Basha answers with a Zack Reed TD plunge and it’s 14-10 Pioneers.

Lewerke finds Adam Turner inside the 10 afer a big hit and Dru Dixon finishes off the drive with a TD run.
Pinnacle gets the win 42-24.

All of 3 miles separates Paradise Valley and Horizon High School.

Which is why we sent our Good Morning Arizona crew out to preview this big rivalry Friday morning.

Dalton Sneed trying to move the chains and his pass gets batted up by one of his wideouts and it’s picked off by Zaxk Compestine and he takes it to the house and give PV a 10 point lead.

Sneed rolls out, finds time and finds Julian Carter, somehow he pulls it down for a touchdown and it is a 3 point game

Horizon is able to get the ball back and Umajesty Williams is able to give Horizon the comeback win 49-45.

Miami and Globe are separated by just 5 miles.... And for the last 100 years, the copper mining towns have met for this rivalry game.

Globe was the first on the board and they add to the score here, Joe Burk punches it in from 5 yards out 13-0 Globe.

19 seconds left in the first half, Miami’s Nick Bowser hits Cedric Johnson down the right sideline for 52 yards touchdown

We’ve got a game … more than 5,000 fans packing the stands.

Miami would go for two, from the swining gate, the center side arms it to the running back who finds the endzone, 13-8, Globe up 5

Last play of the 3rd quarter, Joe Burk scampers in from 29 yards out
And on the 100 year anniversary of the rivalry Globe wins it 34-8
