PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) -- An elderly man and his girlfriend are dead after a car crash in Prescott Valley.

Prescott Valley police identified the victims Friday as 89-year-old Donald Jeske and 78-year-old Janet Merrifield. Both are Dewey residents.

Police say Jeske was driving an SUV that was stopped at a red light near Highway 89A on Thursday afternoon.

They say the SUV was struck from behind by a car driven by a 73-year-old Spring Valley man.

Authorities say the man was flown to a Phoenix hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Police say it's unclear if driver impairment or a possible medical emergency might have been factors in the crash and they're awaiting blood test results.
