Fatal shooting in Phoenix

PHOENIX -- A shooting in Phoenix Tuesday evening left one person dead.

It happened shortly after 8:00 p.m. near 50th Street and Willetta, just south of McDowell.

Police say that Phoenix officers were in the area on an unrelated call, when they heard shots fired. When they began to search the area, they found a gunshot victim lying in the road

That victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police also said a suspect was spotted fleeing from the scene, and he was taken into custody.

"We heard three bullets, like, fire shots," one witness says.

Police tell us neighbors are shocked by the shooting death. "He was well-liked," officers tell us. "He was loved in the community."

The incident reportedly started with a theft. The area was blocked off as police began their investigation.
