PHOENIX -- Phoenix police said a woman was injured when shots were fired at the vehicle she was riding in.

Sgt. Steve Martos said the woman and a child were riding in a car driven by a man on Interstate 17. They exited at Glendale Avenue and stopped at a red light.

Martos said the vehicle was positioned to turn right to head west on Glendale Avenue when multiple rounds were fired at it from a vehicle behind.

The victims fled the area, but the driver discovered the woman had been struck by gunfire and drove her to an area hospital.

Martos said her injuries were not life-threatening.

The child was restrained in a car seat and not injured, according to Martos.

Police do not have suspect or vehicle descriptions.
