TEMPE, Ariz. -- A man is facing felony charges after he allegedly fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run in Tempe.

Tempe police Lt. Jeffrey Glover says Jon Alguire was crossing the street mid-block near Apache Boulevard and McClintock Drive on Friday around 9 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle.

Alguire was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Glover says the driver, 29-year-old Justin Michael Gordecki, abandoned his Ford pickup truck and left the scene.

Police went to Gordecki's listed address. He arrived home several minutes later, after his employer called to tell him police were looking for him.

Gordecki worked as a bartender at the nearby Starters Sports Bar & Grill.

Gordecki reportedly denied being involved in the collision at first, saying his pickup truck must have been stolen, but later admitted to being behind the wheel.

Police said Gordecki smelled like alcohol and had bloodshot eyes.

He faces one count each of driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run vehicle collision and false reporting to police
