PHOENIX (AP) -- A volunteer dance teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with one of his Phoenix-area high school students for more than a year has been sentenced to jail.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 27-year-old David Trujillo was sentenced Friday to one year in jail and lifetime probation for two counts of sexual conduct with a minor. He also must register as a sex offender.

Trujillo was arrested in May 2013 and originally faced 15 charges of sexual conduct with a minor and three counts of sexual abuse.

Court documents say Trujillo and the then 16-year-old boy met at least three times at a hotel and at a dance studio where Trujillo is employed.

The teen's parents contacted Mountain Pointe High School officials after their son told them about the relationship.
