Northbound I-17 reopens near Black Canyon City

PHOENIX -- Northbound lanes of Interstate 17 have reopened near Black Canyon City, following a closure because of a fatal collision, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The left lane reopened at the crash scene, milepost 248, earlier in the evening while the right lane remained closed for emergency responders. ADOT announced around 8 p.m. that all lanes had reopened.

The collision caused a backup of about six miles.

Crash closes northbound I-17 near Black Canyon City

PHOENIX -- A fatal crash has closed northbound lanes of Interstate 17 near Black Canyon City, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The highway is closed at milepost 248, two miles north of Black Canyon City.

Drivers should consider delaying their trips because of the backups or plan for extended travel times.

Also, motorists could use alternate routes, including State Route 87 through Payson or State Route 89 through Prescott.

There is no estimated time for the backups to clear. Drivers can get updates on the condition of I-17 throughout the day on Twitter at @ArizonaDOT.
