PHOENIX -- Maricopa County Sheriff's detectives have arrested three Mexican nationals following a three-month drug smuggling investigation.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a statement that 24-year-old Leonel Cotta-Herrera, 24-year-old Jose Trejo-Berrelleza and 20-year-old Fidel Valdez-Solis, all illegal aliens, sold methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana to undercover detectives.

Arpaio said detectives purchased 20 pounds of pot from the suspects this week.

The suspects were booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on numerous felony charges including drug trafficking, drug possession and forgery.

Arpaio said the investigation concluded late Thursday, but his office is planning a large-scale operation to crack down on domestic and international drug trafficking.
