Man pleads guilty to homicide count in Phoenix crash that killed child

PHOENIX (AP) -- A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and aggravated assault in a Phoenix automobile accident in which a young boy was killed.
 
Edgar Martinez pleaded guilty Friday in Maricopa County Superior Court in connection with the October 2013 accident that claimed the life of 3-year-old Eric Garces.
 
Police said the car that Martinez was driving crossed into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle head-on.
 
Martinez is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 5.
