CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Chandler police are investigating a drive-by shooting that left one person injured and led to the lockdown of a nearby elementary school.

Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Favazzo said a vehicle drove by a house on Saddle Drive, east of Frye Elementary School, and the occupants of the vehicle and the home briefly exchanged gunfire.

One person inside the vehicle was struck and taken to a hospital after the vehicle was located near Knox Road and Sunset Drive, according to Favazzo.

Because students and faculty members were on campus at the time, the school and the adjacent ICAN center for after-school programs were placed on lockdown. The lockdowns have been lifted.

Police are investigating what led up to the shooting, but they believe the people involved know each other.
