PHOENIX -- The Food City at 19th Avenue and Indian School Road is celebrating its grand re-opening Wednesday with free groceries, giveaways, and a chance to win a brand-new car.

This location has been open for 20 years and recently received a full makeover.

"Nothing was untouched," said Paul Harper, Food City manager. "The produce has a complete facelift -- new tables, new cases. Everything has been painted in the store. The meat cases were all refurbished and redone. It's really exciting."

The newly remodeled store now has an expanded restaurant-style deli, a from-scratch Mexican bakery, a full-service tortilleria and more.

The first 500 shoppers who visited the store on Wednesday received a free bag filled with groceries. Food City is also giving away grocery gift cards and prizes, including a grill and an ice chest.

Customers also can register to win a 2014 Chevy Camaro and tickets to the upcoming Luis Miguel concert.

The event will continue until 11 p.m. Wednesday, including Mariachi performances at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
