PHOENIX – Lightning is believed to have started a house fire near 27th Avenue and Dobbins Road in Phoenix Monday morning.

Neighbors said they heard a loud boom at about 2 a.m.

A spokesman with the Phoenix Fire Department said firefighters had a hard time responding to the fire because of all the flooding from a storm that hit the Valley.

When crews arrived, they found a lot of flames. They initially went inside the home to try and fight the fire and save some items, but there were too many flames and they had to go defensive.

The roof collapsed during the firefight.

Four children and two adults made it safely out of the house. They said they were awakened by a loud sound and started seeing embers falling from the ceiling.

The house is a complete loss.
