PHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton has declared a state of emergency for Arizona's most populous city because of flooding resulting from Monday morning's storms.
Stanton also told a news conference that Phoenix has opened its emergency operations center to coordinate the response to the flooding.
Stanton thanked responders in Phoenix and other communities in the Phoenix area, saying their swift responses helped keep many residents out of harm's way.
The mayor said Phoenix may have already seen the worst part of the flooding, but the storms aren't over.
City officials are urging residents to not drive through flooded areas and to not allow children to play in standing water.
