Brewer declares state of emergency due to flooding

PHOENIX (AP) -- Gov. Jan Brewer is declaring a statewide emergency because of flooding from major storms that dropped heavy rain on much of Arizona and she's also telling non-essential state employees to stay home Monday.
The governor's Twitter announcement of her emergency declaration doesn't spell out what areas are covered by the emergency declaration, and Brewer spokesman Andrew Wilder says he doesn't immediately have further information.
Wilder says the governor's main concern regarding at least initially is that people remain safe during and after record rainfall that closed parts of several freeways in Phoenix freeways and flooded numerous local streets in the metro area.
