3OYS: How Cardinals fans can stay 'penalty free' at stadium gatePosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Are you ready for some football? Well, ready or not, football season is here and we kick it all off with a Monday night audience.
“What better way to start off the 2014, our super season, (than) with Monday night football?" John Drum said.
But before you head out to Monday's game or any home game for that matter, plan ahead.
Drum runs stadium operations and says there are a few things to remember for Cardinals games.
"To get through the security screening is to be prepared in advance, and obviously the first thing to make sure they're aware of is the clear bag policy," he said.
The clear bag policy basically dictates what the fans are permitted to bring inside the stadium.
"We ask guests to bring in a bag that’s no bigger than 12 by 12 by 6 (inches), a clear bag ... which makes it obviously that much easier for our guests to screen," Drum said.
So, here’s the deal. You need to put all of your stuff inside a pretty cool, see-through Cardinals bag that costs about $8, but why even spend the money when you can put it inside a one-gallon freezer bag? This works just as well.
And if you don’t want to carry in a bag at all, you don’t have to. But for women out there, you’re going to have to carry in a clutch purse that is no bigger than the size of your hand. And as long as you have this and nothing else, you should be OK.
Also not allowed are any coolers, camera bags or nonapproved seat cushions. However, fans can still carry in items such as binoculars, cameras and their smartphones. All of these items are allowed.
And Drum says fans should remember to arrive in plenty of time.
"One of the first things we always ask fans is to give themselves about 45 minutes from leaving their vehicle to try and get to their seats," he said.
Follow these few simple tips and the only thing you'll have to worry about is cheering on our Cards.
Drum added, "We're excited about it. We know the fans are going to be excited. We're looking forward to another sold-out crowd here at University of Phoenix Stadium on Monday night, and the place is going to be rocking, so this is going to be the place to be."
Also a reminder, diaper bags are not permitted, but the stadium does offer free diapers. And if you forget a clear plastic bag, the stadium does offer plastic bags at the gate you can transfer your items into.
