PHOENIX -- The party started a little early Friday morning with the Valley's most imaginative bartender, according to the United States Bartender's Guild Most Imaginative Bartender contest. The recent competition tested almost every aspect of competitive bartending from start to finish.

Mixologist Michael Allmadinger just won the local title, and is now getting ready to head to Las Vegas to compete for the national title. If he wins, he'll be featured on the cover of the December 2014 "Men of the Year" issue of GQ magazine.

His drink, A La Russe, is a flavorful mix of Bombay Sapphire, turmeric, Early Grey syrup, dry vermouth, and Grains of Paradise. "Measurements are key," he says. "If you use too much, say, citrus, you're going to take away a lot of the botanicals."

When he gets to Vegas, the mixologist will have to compete against 39 other bartenders to come up with the top drink.

On Friday's Good Morning Arizona, he showed Javier and Kaley how to mix up his award-winning cocktail.

Allmadinger's drinks can be found at The Parlor Pizzeria on 20th Street and Camelback.
