Former Ariz. corrections officer accused of sex with inmate gets probation

PHOENIX – A former Arizona Department of Corrections officer accused of having sex with a female inmate in the back of a prison van was sentenced Friday morning.

Per a plea agreement, Anthony James Marotta, 27, was sentenced to three years of probation for attempting to commit unlawful sexual conduct with a person in custody.

Marotta entered into a plea agreement in July. He originally was charged with unlawful sexual conduct with an inmate.

Marotta was arrested after an inmate reported seeing him engaged in a sex act with another inmate while she was driving a transportation vehicle at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Perryville in Goodyear on Dec. 24.

Marotta resigned Dec. 31.
